Letters to Ali

In 2003 director Clara Law and collaborator Eddie Fong traveled with Trish Kerbi from Melbourne to a WA Detention Centre. Trish and her family were to meet with Ali, a teenage refugee from Afghanistan who Trish had been writing to and providing with legal and emotional support.

Rather than use voice-over to describe the play of events, captions were used. I designed and developed all of the captions, title sequence and end credit sequence. The film received very good reviews within Australia, with Margaret Pomeranz noting that the titles were “beautifully designed.” [The Australian, 2004]. The film also screened at the Venice and Berlin film festivals.
